The Combination To The Power Of Heaven

Today I want to share a few thoughts with regard to healing. Several weeks ago I shared with you a few stories about healing.  

I finally want to chat with you about a mystery, the healing power of Jesus. Firstly, always, always, Jesus is our healer. He was bruised (Isaiah 53:5) for our iniquity and upon him the stripes of His beatings were for our healing. Man, if you just allow that thought in your head…… Recently I was listening to some teaching about healing. Did you know that Jesus’ face was beaten to a point that He was unrecognizable? When I consider the suffering He bore for my healing, I refuse to let one little bit of it go unclaimed. I will not waste the torture He endured that was meant for my healing. How about you? 

Anyhoo, by this point you know that I absolutely believe in healing. Healing of the soul, spirit and of our physical body. I’ve seen it. Experienced it and believe what the Word of God says about healing. 

But today I think we need to talk about why some aren’t healed. Why people receive healing prayer and nothing happens or a partial healing occurs. I will say right up front. We don’t know. It is a complete mystery as to why some aren’t healed and some are. 

But I can also share some firm thoughts as to what can keep us from experiencing healing. Let’s start with three things.

  1. Unbelief
  2. Unforgiveness
  3. Bitterness 

Unbelief. I want to share a story from the Healing Rooms. When the three of us, myself, my daughter Caitie and Gina entered the room, we were already halfway healed. Why? Because first, we TRULY believed we would be, could be. We did NOT doubt but truly walked in child-like faith. I’m in a season right now where God is teaching me the power of child-like faith. I have witnessed more supernatural encounters since returning from Bethel than I have ever before. I am convinced it’s because I have combined three things.

  • Child-like faith (I will explain more)
  • Compassion
  • No judgment 

Man, when you put these all together in a soul, Jesus shows up with all kinds of power and love. 

Child-like faith is the opposite of unbelief. Now get this: I choose to believe. Flat out decide that God’s Word is true, and it is. This kind of faith is gained and learned through maturity. What a contradiction of thoughts. Spiritual maturity births child-like faith. Oh how like the Lord to purpose faith this way. 

Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.—1 Corinthians 1:27 

Unforgiveness which gives birth to bitterness keeps so many of us from everything of the Kingdom. I am at a place in my faith walk where I literally choose to not be offended even when I have every right to be offended. I take the offense to Jesus and ask Him to help me rid it from my heart. I choose love. I choose love. I choose love. Couple love with compassion and it’s powerful my friends. 

Which leads to judgment. Ah, now this is the place that gets in the way of most believers. We judge people so harshly. In the depths of our heart we size a person up, declare their faults and failures in our minds and then sentence them to shame, unworthiness or wickedness. And we do all that in seconds. 

What Jesus is teaching me now is some powerful lessons in choosing compassion over judgment.   

Recently I was praying and the Lord brought homeless people to my mind. And I grieved for them. I said out loud in my prayers, “Lord, I will give to them. I don’t care how they came to be homeless or that they may be drunks, druggies, lazy. I will just love them.” 

You know what God said back to me? “Lynn, if you will love these people for me without judging them, why do you judge your daughter-in-law who has left your son. She needs help right now. Will you help her too?” 


Ouch. I mailed her a card, a photo of Elise and money that day. Yeppers. I did. 

What I saw in the healing rooms were those who were child-like and those who were judging everything that happened. They saw God interacting with people and God can be unexpected. Things can get animated as people encounter the God of the Universe. They were skeptical and thought they knew how people should behave. These were the people who did not experience healing. They were too busy judging…. And get this- really, they were judging our God! It scares me to even think about casting judgment on God for the way He interacts with people. SCARES ME!!! 

On the way to the conference when all of us were together sitting at a restaurant for lunch, I put down one ground rule for our conference experience. I looked straight into the eyes of the teens and said, “No matter what you might see or experience this week, you cannot judge others by what they look like or what they may do. If you don't judge, you will encounter everything you are hoping for.” 

Guess what? 

They did! 

And so can you.

Monday I want to share what has been happening in these weeks since Jesus has been teaching me. I feel like He has given me the combination lock to unlock the power of heaven and voice of God. Child-like faith, compassion and absolutely NO judgment. 

I’m in awe of what He is doing. 

And I’m STILL wanting to get onto this series about how to deal with the spirit of confusion, the critical spirit and few other unwelcome and evil entities we contend with. Are you up for all of this my friends? 

Why do you think I spend so much time teaching about the truths of God and focusing on our spiritual growth instead of speaking to unequally yoked marriages? It’s because, once we have our faith walk in the thriving zone, everything falls into that zone as well.

Mismatched, Addiction and Now...He's a Believer! (Part 2)

If you haven't read part one of Trish's testimony, just scroll down and read it first. Here's part two of her amazing testimony and her husband Stu's video testimony. We are so excited to share this with you, SUMites, and we hope to hear more from Trish as she shares more from her unque perspective and experience in living with an addicted spouse. We know that will minister to many of you as well. Stu's transformation not only changed his heart, it even changed his appearance too. Read on and watch...

Around the time that Stu was at his heaviest, drinking the most, on medication for high blood pressure, cholesterol and depression was when God reached down and grabbed him. A conversion experience, only slightly less impressive than that of Saul/Paul!

Stu was taking his company at that time, through an initial public offering. He was on a 3 week, “road show” and was in London on the day of his salvation. He was walking down the streets of London with the CEO (an atheist) of the company and one of their investment bankers. The CEO commented about how religion was at the root of every world problem. Stu remembers thinking that this made sense to him. That night, in his hotel room he contemplated, “but what would the world be like without Jesus?” He experienced a dramatic infiltration of the Holy Spirit; he dropped to the floor and spent the night crying out to the Lord in a state of repentance.

Now you would think, after all of these years of us being unequally yoked that he would have enthusiastically shared with me the good news, but you see, prior to his conversion, Stu said that only the weak were Christians and now he was one of them. He was frightened (to say the least) about what this new life would look like, so for then, no one knew.


One day, Stu finally agreed to start attending church with me. This was the first big change that I saw, and little by little, I noticed the sermon messages started to get through to him. Then one day, and I will never forget it, Stu said to me, “Trish, I think my heart is softening.” What? Ezekiel 36:26 “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” had manifested right before my eyes! My heart soared!

As ecstatic and grateful as I was over my husband’s salvation, our life suddenly became worse. He lost his job, his alcoholism went from drunkenness to periods of blackout, and he got a DUI. We also bought a business that went under and bankruptcy ensued. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) learned that after he and the CEO were fired from his last company, the company restated earnings from a time period when Stu was the CFO. The SEC decided to formally file charges of fraud. A four week trial ensued. Those four week, it turned out, were more painful for me than for Stu. It was actually a time for him to draw even closer to Jesus because Jesus also had been falsely accused. Stu sat right on Jesus’ lap the whole trial, drawing closer and closer to Him every day. Stu was ultimately not found responsible of the charges, but his name had been publicly dragged through the mud.

Thanks be to God, that some time before the trial; after 30 days of rehab, numerous relapses, and hundreds of AA meetings. Stu finally fully surrendered himself and the addiction to God. True sobriety is a gift only from God.

It was also about this time that Stu came to me and said, “Trish, this abundance of love that I have for Jesus, isn’t going away; I would like to go back to school for my Masters of Divinity.” So be it.

My former non-believing husband will graduate with his Masters of Divinity this spring.  He is the Evangelism and Outreach Pastor at one of the biggest churches in Colorado and I work for K-LOVE.

The Lord has done the unimaginable. He took a couple that did not know or care for Him; reached down and saved us both (about 10 years apart). Through years of pain and suffering; He shook the shakable elements of our lives, and left only the unshakable to remain. Hebrews 12:27 “the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.” Now, our trials and our stories are used for His glory. 

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or imagine. — Ephesians 3:20

Another Astounding Testimony: Mismatched, Addiction and Now...He's a Believer!

My friends, you just read about Janet's husband's transformation and a few of you even shared stories in the comments about your spouses coming to faith in Christ! Wow! Lynn and I—our heads are spinning and our hearts are jumping for joy!

AND, here is another one! Trish Fuhlendorf reached out to us a few weeks ago and shared a stunning video testimony done by her husband who is now a full time pastor. Once we saw it, we had to know more! Trish not only lived in a mismatched marriage for ten years, but also lived and dealt with her husband's addiction to alcohol as well. 

I love what Trish shared in her email: "I have a very small local marriage ministry here in Denver, which consists of the Lord placing Christian women, who are struggling in their marriages (many who are ready to leave), whether it be because they are unequally yoked, and/or married to an addict. Been there, done that...have both t-shirts."

Today we are sharing part one of Trish's testimony. On Friday, we will have part two up along with the video testimony her husband Stu did in a message he gave at his church. My friends, don't miss a moment of this stunning testimony. We have prayed for these testimonies and now they are streaming in! To God be ALL the glory!

I am the youngest of six children and was raised Catholic. In a way, I am grateful for my Catholic upbringing because it did provide me with the foundation that Jesus is the Son of God. What was missing however, was the commitment to surrendering my life to Christ’s lordship. At 21, I was most definitely, lord of my life.

I met Stu May 3rd, 1986; appropriately, at a bar. We were married 11 months later as equally yoked pagans. Stu was a teacher when I met him, but decided that financially, this was not the career that would give him the life he wanted. So, we moved from Denver to San Diego so that Stu could pursue his MBA, while I worked to support us as an Aerospace engineer. It was during these two years that I was first exposed to my husband’s anger. I did not make a connection between his bursts of anger and his use of alcohol. I drank too, so his drinking was meaningless to me. I do however remember times when friends had to carry him to our car because he was so intoxicated.

After graduate school, we moved back to Colorado where Stu eventually landed his first Chief Financial Officer position at the age of 29. I gave birth to our two children and our life went on.

At about the age of 36, a friend of mine gave me a book, but said as she handed it to me, “Watch out, it will change your life!” Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to start reading it. It was “Left Behind”. About a quarter of the way into it, I realized that in the event of rapture, I would absolutely be “left behind”.

I was attending a small community church at the time and made an appointment with the Pastor to go over my laundry list of questions about Christianity. He beautifully answered all of my questions and encouraged me to attend the upcoming women’s retreat. That weekend, at the retreat, I was filled with the Holy Spirit and never looked back. This is when the fun began. Initially, I concealed my new found faith, but over time, decided that was ridiculous and I started to read my Bible openly.

“What?!? What do you mean you’re now a Christian? I thought I married a Christian!” Stu felt that since we celebrated Christmas and Easter that perhaps we were Christians.

As I grew deeper and deeper in my faith, he became angrier and angrier. Arguments were a regular occurrence and soon, we discovered that we had nothing in common.

Shortly after we married, Stu began to gain weight and over the years, ballooned to 310 lbs. His drinking was also on a steady increase. Because I didn’t have alcoholism in my family, I was not really aware of the signs. Again, since I drank, I just thought there were 2 kinds of drinkers, those that became the life of the party and those who became angry. I, unfortunately, was married to the latter.

Over time however, I noticed that the amount he consumed and the time in which he consumed it, were significantly higher than in my situation. I confronted him that he might have a drinking problem. He agreed and that began the roller coaster of trying to solve the problem.

Stu and I were now in our mid-forties. Unequally yoked, battling addiction and both miserable in our marriage. I continued to pray, attend church and do my best to be the spiritual head of our household. By this time, I had thoroughly, studied the Bible, looking for an “out clause” for my marriage. Adultery and abandonment did not apply to my situation, but I wanted out. It was at this time that the Lord showed me that my holiness was more important to Him, than my happiness. I must be a witness for the covenant of marriage. I clung to many scriptures during this time, but I think the two that had the greatest impact on me were, Acts 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” (this was my promise) and 1 Corinthians 2:14 “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.” (This verse completely changed the way that I prayed for my unsaved husband...)

Who Were The Pray-ers?

From Monday’s post…….However, before we leave I want to go and give a hug and thank you to each of the trio of the prayer team. I start looking all over. I can’t find them. 

Ahhhhhhh, now that is an interesting story in itself. I haven’t been able to stop considering the trio of pray-ers since I arrived home a week ago…………… 

HR2Let me pick up the story from Monday. The girls and I has sufficiently wiped our faces and we are still all smiles from ear-to-ear and remain pretty-much in shock by what has just transpired. However, we must make our way to the airport shortly. We stand and start toward the exit of the main room where there are still tons of people. 

And as I stand I’m compelled to want to say thank you one more time to the praying trio before we leave. After all, it’s not every day three people pray with you and miracles break out. So, I start looking. And looking. Head turning left to right. I turn around. I look all throughout the crowded room as I expect they are now praying with another person. 

“Where did they go? I want to say thank you again?” I ask Caitie and Gina. “I don’t see them anywhere. Do you?

“No,” Gina replies. 

“Mom, they just left.” 

“What, all three of them?” 

“Yes, I saw them go out the side door into the hallway.” 

“What? That can’t be.” 


I’m in shock and puzzled. I proceed to explain to the girls, “It doesn’t make sense. I’ve worked in healing rooms myself. You volunteer. It’s only for an hour and a half. You pray and move on to the next group.” 

“Well, they probably needed to go to the bathroom.” 

“All three of them at the same time?” I respond as the preposterousness of the thought rises in me. Remember, two young men and an older, pristine white-haired woman. Would they go to the potty together???? Seriously????? 

“Well, maybe they took a break.” 

“Well, maybe but when you volunteer in the Healing Rooms with this many people waiting for prayer, you don’t break, especially since the Rooms just opened. You pray.” 

My puzzlement begins to turn to something else in my heart as if the dawn of the sunrise is happening in that moment. 

We emerge into the hallway to head to class and they aren’t there. They’re gone. 

Just like that. We never saw them again. 

Now I’m convinced that this amazing trio might be something more than three ordinary people. My daughter remains skeptical. 

But even now, I hold the possibility, the astonishing possibility, in my heart. And like Mary, the mother of Jesus, this is another treasure I will store and ponder in my heart for the rest of my life.

Gang, on Monday on want to visit the reasons why God does not heal. And my suprise will have to wait another week as I'm not quite ready. Hugs.


Jesus Heals! In Front of My Eyes!

If you missed Friday’s post, go back and read it now. Here is the link. Now let’s pick up the story. 

Okay, remember my daughter who is 19 just received word that Jesus launched her into a new journey. And my friends, already so much has happened to her as she returned to her college campus. But, let’s not get sidetracked. Oh and I should mention, Dineen was not with us as she had to return to San Jose early that morning for a family get together. Bummer! 


Gina Caitie LynnThe trio of pray-ers move on to Gina as Caitie is sitting next to me telling me about what she just experienced. We are both teary-eyed and overwhelmed. If you stop for a minute and think about what we are experiencing, it’s a Holy Mind-blow. I mean really. Angels are in the room. Jesus is launching teens into His Kingdom, people are being healed. My head still wants to explode today just writing about it all. 

Well as my daughter and I are talking, all of a sudden Gina starts shouting, “It’s loud in here. It’s loud in here.” The two young men have even broader smiles, if that is possible. They are laughing and jumping. Gina is practically dancing. I shoot out of my chair again screaming, “You’re healed. You’re healed.” 

We have become a public spectacle in the giant room packed with people but who cares? Gina’s hearing has been restored because Jesus loves her. AMEN! 

I run to her and practically break her neck hugging her so hard. Caitie runs at the same time. She’s almost tackled right there in the prayer room. The young men are clapping. I’m clapping, Caitie and Gina are teary and all smiles at the same time. 

Wait!     Did you hear me? She can hear!!!  I can’t hardly even now grasp what I experienced. She is healed and her ears were opened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 

Joyce is somewhere writing on a paper. 

“Gina, what happened?” I ask. 

“They began to pray and ask Jesus for healing. After a few minutes I felt heat and then heard pop, pop, pop. My sinuses drained and then everything got very loud.” 

Andrew grabs Gina and takes her to the stage and places her up next to give a testimony on the microphone to the room. Right before her is a woman also giving a testimony. And get this. She also just had her hearing restored. Whoa! 

Gina approaches the mic. Gives her testimony. I’m still a blathering woman in search of Kleenex as we watch. All I can mutter over and over is, “Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus.” 

She finishes her testimony and returns to us. I see Andrew once again and hug his poor skinny neck. I practically want to throw myself on him in giant hugs of gratitude for his faith and prayers. He then goes to hug the girls. 

The three of us sit back down to wipe our faces and talk some more. If you have seen deer in headlights, but happy dear, that would be us three *grin*. We sat there for a few moments in the atmosphere. Finally, I say, “We should head over to the after class as we need to get to the airport soon.” So off we went. 

However, before we leave I want to go and give a hug and thank you to each of the trio of the prayer team. I start looking all over. I can’t find them. 

Ahhhhhhh, now that is an interesting story in itself. I haven’t been able to stop considering the trio of pray-ers since I arrived home a week ago. I will tell you about that on Friday my friends.


Woo Hoo!!!  It’s a blast living the believer’s life!  Pray BIG. Dream BIG. Our God is all about answering faith-filled prayers.

Does Jesus Heal Today?


Where to begin. Let me ask you a question. Do you believe God still heals? Can He cure cancer, heal the blind restore hearing in the deaf? 

Revelation 12 11 Fall backgroudIf you are a SUMite, I know you said yes. I know you said that because we MUST believe in great miracles of God’s love and kindness. If we had little faith, we could not walk this unique walk of the unequally yoked. 

Today, I’m going to step out and share with you what transpired on Saturday. I may stumble through the story as I’m still processing it all. Get a cup of coffee or tea. Pull up a chair and I pray, I pray with all that I am, that you feel chills run all over your body as the Holy Spirit confirms His power and love for God’s people. 

You met Gina, right? We prayed for her several years ago when she was facing a melanoma diagnosis. And since that time she has recovered as is in remission. Hallelujah! Can I get a hallelujah? 

And I believe on Friday night she was further delivered from that nasty cancer right before my very eyes. That’s a story for another day. OHHHHHHHH, and it’s a good one. Stay tuned. 

Back to Saturday. Myself, my daughter, Caitie and her best friend, Gina, went to the church to receive prayer for healing. For myself, healing of my injury to my right wrist. I injured it rototilling the garden in March. Caitie wanted prayer for more of God. And as for Gina, she was complaining in the car on our way there that she couldn’t hear as my daughter was talking. She said, “Caitie, you know I can’t hear very well so talk louder.” 

I chime in from the back seat, “You know Gina, you should ask for healing of your hearing while we are here.” I didn’t think another thing about it. 

Yep, I bet you know where this is going. But let me share how this happened. 

We arrived in the sanctuary and there are people all over the place. People praying and being prayed for and those waiting for prayer. For some reason, I didn’t follow the crowd into the seating area but took myself and the two teens down toward the front of the room. We waited for only a short time and then a prayer team moved over to talk with me. I was seated, Caitie was next to me and Gina next to her. 

The prayer team approached and I stood. Before me were two young men who I think were in their mid-twenties, Andrew and Chris. With them was an older, round woman with pure white hair, Joyce. The young men made introductions. Joyce said nothing. (Remind me later to share my thoughts about their names) I explained I wanted prayer for my wrist. Christ began to share a story of a man healed of a broken arm right in front of him. I grow completely excited and shove my hand, writs, arm out to Chris and practically scream, “Oh, please pray for me.” Poor guy couldn’t even finish his story because I’m already on board and can’t wait for a touch from God. 

Chris places a hand over my wrist and a hand under. The three pray. I FEEL HEAT. At that moment, I feel a fire come over my whole body and I burst into a sweat and right behind that I burst into tears like a blathering baby girl. I’m so overwhelmed. Crying and sweating all over the boys who are now likely uncomfortable because I’m practically sobbing a river on their sleeves. Sheesh! They hand me off to Joyce. Then Chris asks me, “How does it feel?” 

Gang, I begin to move my wrist in full motion and with—out—pain. A first since March of this year. 

I start screaming. People are watching. The young men have a face full of gleeful smiles. Joyce is writing on a paper. I don’t think I ever heard her say a word. Hmmmmmm 

“No pain. No pain. Look I can move it and no pain.” More snot sobs. Andrew asks if I would give a testimony over at the testimony table. So my snot nose, healed wrist and I cross the crowed room and speak with a sweet girl who records my testimony. 

The trio leaves me and moves on to my daughter, Caitie. She is holding out her hands in front of her like you do when you want to receive something when I return from the testimony table. She is teary. I’m still freaked out and watching. Thankfully the snot subsided. I see them praying “more” for Caitie and then the four of them break. 

All smiles. Hugs all around and Caitie walks over to me. 

“What happened?” 

The trio moved to Gina and are praying with her. 

“Mom, I felt heat on my hands when Chris touched me. And as they prayed, Chris asked me again what I felt on my hands, as my eyes were closed. I told him more heat from his hands. He said to me, “I’m not touching your hands now.” 

“What? Oh my goodness, you had an angel touching your hands. Caitie, this is so amazing.” More tears now from the both of us. Where’s the Kleenex? 

“Mom, Chris said that as he prayed for me he saw Jesus. And Jesus was holding a bottle of wine and christening a ship. He was christening a ship because I was being launched onto a journey.” I looked into her eyes and she into mine. After what happened to her the night before we had a knowing that this was in fact — true. More on that story later. 

Oh good grief. I’m already way long on this story and I haven’t gotten to the good part yet. So, tune in on Monday as I tell you what happens next. 

My friends, I know Jesus. He is the healer and it is His purpose in our lives to give us healing in every area, health, soul, body. I give Jesus all the honor, glory and worship because He still heals His people today.

Hello my beloved mentors, 

I hope you are both well. Thank you for always leading and encouraging us SUMites through our journey. I always find I read the blog at just the right moment and it always speaks to my heart. 

I wanted to share the video my church (30k people) will see this weekend. It's a story of how Gods people come together for one another.  

Thanks for praying for me in the hospital - I WILL never forget that. Those prayers by Gods people pulled Julian out of a dangerous place and gave him life.

How funny my pre-believer is apart of it and my pastor will even mention his name this weekend. Our men are being assaulted with the Holy Spirit! May they embrace and surrender.

The Miracles of Walmart Prayer Day

My friends, the Lord surely showed up and heaven opened over that store. Let me share some of the details that touched my heart.

Ten people from different churches and streams of faith. NOW THAT is unity in the Body of Christ. 

John 17:20-23

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 

I watched scripture come to life!!! 

But you know what is even cooler than that?? 

The gifts came from all of you. Believers from all ages, societies, different faith streams and nationalities….. This event was the most beautiful examples of the unified Body of Christ in action THAT I HAVE EVER WITNESSED! 

Our Papa, Lord is so well pleased with the people of the SUM Nation. 

I prayed for at least 10 people myself. Four people asked for prayer for back pain. Several for healing from cancer. 

One man in particular emerged from the store. I held out my hand with a gift card for him. I said, “I have a gift card for you. And could you use prayer?” 

He looked me in the face with eyes very serious and said, “I don’t want your card. I want prayer.” I still tear up just thinking about this man so desperate for prayer. His name was Marsh. I prayed for his back pain and surgery. My friends, today please pray that Marsh is so touched by God that surgery isn’t necessary. Let’s pray for his miracle. 

Heidi told me that a woman came back to her and told her how she spent the gift card. The woman said to Heidi, “I bought pajamas for my sister. Her husband just left her and the kids.” 

I was astounded by the number of men in their 30’s and 40’s who wanted prayer and who were prayed for. It became clear to me that men often want prayer but they don’t ask for it. I’m grieved in my heart for the men of this world who carry great burdens and don’t have people in their lives to pray with them. (Our unbelieving spouses also come to mind). 

We had a few hilarious moments. I prayed for a woman’s hands. She crochets often. Her name was Rosie Posey.. She was a fire cracker and a hoot. Sue and Lindsey contended with a cantankerous lil’ ole’ lady but in the end, this woman who didn’t want a hug embraced Sue. LOVE WINS!!! 

One story came to me hours after the event. I received a message through FB from a friend of mine. She wrote: Were you outside Walmart giving hugs and gift cards? I saw a post on a Temecula group of someone who received one. She loved the gift card, but the comment that got my attention was when she said she hadn't had a hug in 7 months

As we were leaving that morning, a man who was leaving the store said, “Thank you so much. Thank you so very much. It was a really great thing that you did today.” And right after that a man in the parking lot shouts over to me, “I will pay this forward.” I smiled and nodded. He said louder and with conviction, “I will pay this forward.” 

I smiled broader and said, “Thank you.” (He wanted to make sure I knew he meant it (smile)). 

Oh my friends, our world needs love. Our world needs Jesus. Last Thursday many people experienced that love. I’m still astounded at how many people wanted prayer. 

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I KNOW ALL OF YOU stood in love, with prayers and in agreement with us on Thursday. Your prayers were powerful. That is why the morning went so smoothly. 

I know there will be more that comes from this day and I will surely keep you up to date as we continue to receive feedback. 

I love you my dear and eternal sisters and brothers here at SUM. I gave your love away to strangers and they were touched.

#SUM Nation Walmart Day

Hi Sumites, 

Things are coming together for this Thursday, our Walmart Prayer Day. I also call this adventure one of our Random Acts of Kindness days. 

When I started this adventure all I had was a Word. A Word from God. I saw a picture in my mind of shoppers at Walmart in line to check out and shoppers in line for prayer. I didn’t know if this was a good idea, if you would support it, or if anyone would show up with me to pray.

Well of course, we won’t know the full scope of this escapade until it’s finished. But let me tell you what has happened already. You, the SUMite Nation have donated in small amounts at a time and some large amounts (a few of you) so much money that we have a ton of gift cards. I have money to purchase the flowers for the kids and enough to cover the signs and other small expenses. 


Donations came from all over the world. Who knew? 

God did!!! 

On Thursday the crowd who is joining me continues to grow. When I started this adventure I wasn’t sure if one other person would be brave enough to stand outside of Walmart and ask people if they want prayer. But it seems that most of the people I’ve asked said yes. And as more people find out, they want to join in. I believe SUMites are coming from out-of-state. What I love is that all the volunteers are from different churches. What a beautiful way to represent the united Body of Christ to the world. I can’t wait to hug your necks and share photos. 

I’m overwhelmed by God’s people. Overwhelmed that people are willing to give their money. Give their time. Teenagers willing to walk around with signs and hug people and give them a smile. 

Our world is a tough place. In the last week alone my head spins when I consider all the shootings across America, Canada and elsewhere. BUT, there are good people in the world. And the SUMite Nation… We are the good people. We are people filled with love, the Holy Spirit and with a relentless hope. We are the people who can make a change for good and reflect love and kindness. 

I believe Thursday will reflect everything that this community is about. 

For this week will you pray for Thursday. I expect push-back from the dark realms but I know with our prayers there will be people on Thursday whose very life may be altered forever, who will be saved, or healed, because we gave, we prayed, we loved. 

Monday: Pray that the Walmart store comes under an open heaven. That the store is free from any and all dark dominion, curses or lies of the enemy. Pray for the management of the store in this way as well. 

Tuesday: Pray that God keeps our prayer team healthy and that no one is kept from attending. 

Wednesday: Pray for the people who will be shopping. Pray that God gives us boldness and courage and that the shoppers are receptive and feel safe to receive prayer.

Thursday: Pray all that morning for divine encounters, healings, angelic visitations, and for powerful miracles. Pray that people have an encounter with God. 

Friday: I will post photos and share stories. We will be posting on Thursday some photos and thoughts on our Sum Facebook page

I love you SUMites. I KNOW we hold a special place in the Kingdom. Our trials and difficulties in our mismatched marriages lead us from glory to glory. This is one of the glories!!!

Kingdom Prayer - Pray This With Me

#SUM Nation, today would you join me in prayer: 

Lord, Holy Papa, Your children gather here in this unexpected house. The House of SUM where we come from all the nations to share our hearts with You and with each other. Thank you for this amazing place where we gather to unite “the church.” Thank you this is a place where we don’t judge one another by appearance. We see one another at the heart level — through words. It’s beautiful here Lord. Thank you for allowing us to see one another just as You see us. You look at the heart. 

Father, we love you. We adore our Betrothed, King Jesus and we are lost without the Dove that indwells and sits upon our shoulder. Thank you for your love, grace, provision, lavish gifts. Thank you that you wanted kids and chose us. 

Today, Father I’m moved to ask Your hand of covering over our Kingdom Miracle event that will happen on June 12, 2014. Lord, today prepare the legions of angels and release them to go before us to open the doors of heaven over this store. Make the morning go smoothly with all those who are volunteering, with the staff of Walmart and especially the shoppers. 

Lord, there are already several who need healing that will approach those doors on that specific Thursday. Oh Father, please, please give them courage to ask for our prayers. And then Lord, You move in power and love. Bring healing, hope, restoration and goodness to these lives. Bring Your Presences so powerfully that the demons flee in fear and that heaven opens over this store. 

Lord, we want to see Your glory and proclaim that God is alive and well and He works in the lives of ordinary people outside of churches and in the places where the broken gather. We, Your People, ask that You astound us with such unexpected surprises that we can’t wait to do this again. And that Your fame and glory spread out across the nations. 

Daddy, help us to pray with your power and authority. Pray with love. Place such a powerful love anointing upon us that when people look into our eyes, they immediately feel peace and joy. We pray that they see the reflection of Your Son, Jesus. 

May all that we do bring you glory. Fight with us against disease, oppression, and the lies of the enemy. We declare You have ordained great victories for this day and we will be obedient to bring people love, healing, and mostly Your heart into their lives. 

We pray with belief in the name of Jesus. Amen.

The Day the Devil Came to Steal My Life

Today it's my supreme pleasure to introduce you to Lisa Bujanda. She along with her husband, Gil, are the pastors of my church here in Temecula. I adore Lisa and count it a true blessing to have her as a sister in Christ. She has been walking in the gifts of the spirit since she had a miraculous encounter with love. So today, I pray her true and personal story will inspire you.

LisabujandaIt was the week of my 23rd birthday. I was at death’s door with a Heart & Lung disease. Doctors had given me no hope and no cure. 

On October 3rd of 1983, I sat in the doctors office with my fiancé Gil as the doctors words echoed in our ears. “You have six months to a year to live.” 

I was barely a young adult. His words were devastating. What, my life was ending? How does a 20-year-old deal with that kind of news? It brought me to my knees and I cried out to God for help. At that moment my young life flashed before my eyes and I realized I wouldn’t have a future. No career, no kids. I wouldn’t see my children grow up, graduate, get married and have kids of their own. My hopes and dreams were smashed. 

The doctors only advice was to get on the Heart-Lung transplant list. He said it could buy me some time. At that time the surgery was very experimental. Only ten Heart-Lung surgeries with my specific diagnosis had been done in the entire world. As I awaited a call to go to Stanford University to be evaluated and put on the active list, we began to do fund-raising. We did numerous TV spots and newspaper articles. This propelled me into a deep depression. It’s nothing like watching yourself on the evening news and hearing the doctor said she has no more time left. 

We hit rock bottom; but we continued to cry out to God for help. We gave God permission to mess with our theology and teach us His truth. Our prayer was -just speak to us.  

God answered our prayer and began to teach us about who He is. He began to reveal His goodness. He is a good God and He reminded us that He is the same yesterday, today and forever- Hebrews 13:8 

He taught us that He still heals today and for us to trust Him. Our loving Father gave us many promises to stand on and believe. On Easter Sunday we decided to trust Him fully for healing. And instead of instantly getting better I got worse. The promise was tested. I began to deteriorate to the point of being bed ridden and on oxygen 24/7. I had severe chest pain and could barely move because of the lack of oxygen. 

The doctor came to our house that week and told Gil to get everything ready that I would be dead by the end of the week. But Gil received a word from God that night. It was Psalm 40: 1-3. “I waited patiently from the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire: he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” 

A few days after the doctors visit I said my good byes to my husband Gil. I knew it was time. I felt all the energy drain from my body and felt like I was drifting in a tunnel. I was in complete peace and then I heard the Father God say. “No it's not your time.” Instantly all the energy came back into my body. 

God is good all the time!! 

Please don’t blame God for the things that the enemy brings. The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy but Jesus comes to bring life and life more abundantly. 

If something is stealing, killing or destroying your life; it is the enemy not God.

Our prayer should be Father let Your Kingdom come and let Your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven. God does not bring sickness and disease that’s the enemy’s doing. 

Jesus brought me new life that day and I will never be the same. He gave me a second chance at life. He can give you a second chance and restore seven-fold what the enemy has stolen in your life. Trust Him! 

My favorite verse: Romans 8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose”

The Gentle and Astonishing Message In The Snow

Lynn here. Today it's my great honor to share a miraculos story. Please jon me for something rare and beautiful as told by one of our own SUMites, Joanne.


Joanne MarshWhat a privilege and honor this is for me today to be able to share with you an extraordinary event in my life. This event was the first step for me to help me realize how God can reveal His intimacy and love. 

When I lost my Golden Retriever who was like a child for me, I was devastated. Not only had I lost my canine child I lost my walking partner. I can't even begin to presume how many miles we covered together. After Jake was gone I just had to get myself back out walking again no matter how hard or how lonely it felt. I recall starting down the sidewalk that led from my front door and suddenly as if guided supernaturally, I spun around and went back to the house to grab the camera off the fridge. I do not recall being led to go back for it. Back outside and finally making progress, I felt a heavy burden weighing me down as I walked alone. As I walked, I continued in constant conversation with God. I asked Him to show me a sign that He had Jake with Him. I trusted He did but I just NEEDED to know. I needed to SEE. The grief was so deep that I needed some HOPE. I needed to see with my eyes that indeed, my boy was with God. 

As I walked I thought I was seeing some shapes in the clouds that possibly might have meant something but I finally gave up knowing I was grasping at anything to find comfort . The remainder of my walk was spent with my head hanging downward in heavy concentration on the road under my feet. "Just let me get home because my body feels like it weighs a ton." 

Joanns paw print snowSuddenly I felt as if someone behind me grabbed my head with their two hands and lifted my face up pointing me to  the left to see THIS IMAGE in the field before me. I gasped as my two hands flew to my mouth and my knees buckled. I was so stunned I didn't know whether to laugh or cry? All I knew was THIS IS IT! THIS IS THE SIGN. My Father led me down specific streets without my awareness and led me to this EXACT SPOT. This image in the snow was for me to see and KNOW. God has my boy! 

This experience is an enormous blessing I will always treasure. Because God prompted me to return for my camera, I became aware that this event was to be shared at every opportunity given. I always pray that when we share our stories where God responding to our prayers that others will find great hope. And then they in turn will begin to seek Him in a personal way. And that they will know He is here with us and also SEE He is here with us!

Weekend Worship — Share Your Testimony!


My friends, Lynn and I had a fabulous time at FamilyLife Today with Dennis Rainey and Bob Lepine last week. These two men have such HUGE hearts for families and marriage. What a privilege it was for us to share our hearts with them. And they asked us some really challenging questions! Good questions. As soon as we get the details of the broadcast, we will share it with you. 

SUMites, you know our hearts desire is to encourage wives and moms in their mismatched places, in ALL walks of life and circumstances. And I see that desire in so many of you too. Abba has given us so much! So much hope and strength in our mismatched places. It just bursts out of us. That's why we wrote Not Alone. And let me say how grateful we are to our publisher, Regal Books, who believed in our message and ministry. These people are dedicated to Jesus and sharing His saving hope. Amazing!

In greatest honor to our sweet Jesus, I have a couple testimonies for you. My friend, testimonies are POWERFUL (Rev. 12:11). The enemy knows this and wants to keep us quiet and will even squelch us down if he can. Trust me, I know (and will hopefully share more on this soon). That's because he knows that testimonies increase faith and hope, and release God's power in our lives, our marriages, our children and the world! As Lynn and I sat on the plane on the way home, she turned to me and said, "We need more testimonies." And I agreed.

Yesterday as I walked and prayed I asked Abba for this, for more of His miracles to be released in this community and to bring us more testimonies. He will do it!

This first one is from our book and you'll recognize Gillian's name too. She is a righteous mama contending for her kiddos! I love how she used her children's toys to teach her children! Moms, don't be afraid to ask the Holy Spirit to inspire you with ideas like this. It's fun!

1531631_10152189985277280_674821193_nI read a short story from a children’s Bible, and we sing a praise song or hymn each night at bedtime. “Jesus Loves Me” has become a favorite. Because they are very young, I sometimes use figurines and toys to act out Bible stories—it’s simple, but it really holds their attention and makes the story come to life for them—and for me. 

This is what I pray on the nights when I put my young boys to bed:

Dear Lord, thank You for _______, _______ and _______. Thank You for Your love for them and Your special plan for each of their lives. Please bless them and keep them, and lead them all their days. May they always know Your great love for them.

The last line I find especially important. That is the one thing everything hinges on, because it is when we lose sight of how much God loves us that we tend to fall away from Him. But even when life’s not fun, if we can still feel His love, it makes all the difference.

This next testimony is one sent in by a reader. So amazing! As you read it, claim that this kind of miracle is possible for you too, becaue with God, ALL things are possible (Luke 1:37).

Hi Dineen,
I'm so sorry I missed the opportunity to join the week of fasting with the community, but I have no doubt that all will be blessed as a result.

We exchanged emails last year when I was going through a tough patch in my marriage and you gave such encouragement and wise words to me through that time.

Well, I wanted to share briefly with you the latest to encourage that God does hear our heart's cry and moves on our behalf, but He also looks for us to actively get involved too. Obedience and His power seem to go hand in hand - Father is so gracious that way, He loves to do things with us.

2013 was a tough year and continued to have challenges in my marriage right up to the end. But even I wasn't prepared for the conversation 2 weeks before Christmas that saw my husband announce the end of our 12 year marriage (and a relationship of 18 years). I was devastated but I knew that God had given me the strength to finally say no to something that was tearing us apart and was unbelievably unhealthy for our marriage and our souls.

Now my husband is a man who, when he makes his mind up, does not bend even if he is in the wrong. When he said our marriage was finished, I had no reason to doubt him. But only 5 days later he took my hand and said that this situation was very wrong, a waste of 18 years and that he didn't want to be without me.

I was stunned. Was this possible? Only with God, I would have to say! I knew that the prayers I had been praying and those of supportive Christian friends had been heard.

Then my second shock that night - I once again asked him to consider counselling. He has never agreed to counselling as he doesn't think it does any good. However, as he began his protestations, God directed me to say that surely if we wanted to save an 18 year relationship, counselling as a last resort was worth a try. He said, amazingly, that he would agree to "consider" a selection that I would provide him with. Again, this is a huge step forward.

So instead of the expected disaster of Christmas and the New Year, my beloved was just wonderfully kind to me, loving and sweet. It was the best Christmas present I could ever have.

Then, as if to add a cherry on this wonderful "cake", God brought another present to me. My husband has a sharp mind with an ability to debate and contest. I'm far more a feeling, sensing person, so he runs rings around me usually on the rare occasions we discuss Christianity.

However, the first Saturday into the new year, out of the blue we meandered through topics of conversation and ended up talking "religion." As mentioned above, I'm not very good at debating, certainly not compared to my husband but, this time, the Holy Spirit just dropped words into my mind and unbelievably my husband was arrested by them to the point that he was nearly speechless. A first in my experience!

The key moment was when, in response to one of his statements, I said I largely agreed with his comments on religion, but that faith in Jesus was actually about a relationship with a personality rather than an organisation. I was even able to share Psalm 139 with him.

Trust me when I say this was a big breakthrough. I'm not expecting my husband to become a Christian tomorrow, but I truly believe that something has been loosed in the spiritual realm to open his heart further to God. So whilst we still have a way to go, still need to get that counselling sorted and deal with our issues, I know that my Father has this marriage in His hands and that He will withhold no good thing from us for it's renewal and healing.

Amazing, amazing, AMAZING! And so GOD! As this dear woman said, God loves to do things with us. Have an amazing weekend bathed in the promises of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. He is mighty to save—ALL of us!

A Miracle Perhaps???

So my friends, I issued a kissing challenge on Monday. And I arrived home from traveling on Sunday and found myself with a giant cold. Achew! 

So there wasn’t any kissing happening around here. Bummer. I hope I start to feel better next week. And I have another challenge on Monday that will bring a smile to your face as it’s a challenge in our faith walk as well as our marriages. 

But today, I want to share with you a couple of fun stories from my travels this past weekend. Sometimes I’m simply overwhelmed by God’s favor. He delights showing up in the little things. I shared this particular adventure on my Facebook Page last Thursday. 

Here is what happened. 

I was traveling to Topeka, Kansas as my mother was being honored by Washburn University as an Alumni Fellow for 2013. It was a big deal and I’m glad I attended. 

I made my flight reservations and seat assignments several months ago. My mom, sister, and niece who were flying together also made reservations and seat assignments separately. The only plan was to meet in Denver and fly on the same plane to Kansas City. 

The day of the flight arrives and due to weather my flight from San Diego to Denver was late. I was barely able to make the connection and boarded the flight from Denver to Kansas City. I boarded the flight before my mom, sister and niece not knowing their seat assignment. 

Well low and behold. I’m seated waiting for the plane to fill up and looking for my mom and wondering where she will be seated when I spot her coming directly toward me. And guess what? Her seat assignment was right next to me. The very seat next to mine. My nice sat next to her and my sister was one row forward. 

Say WHAT??? 

God loves to delight me…. Every….. Single….. Day… 

And He wants to delight you too. It’s learning to give all of your life to Him and then watch as He displays His glory. 

Oh and a P.S. On my return flight, I stopped in the bathroom in the Denver airport. I stepped into the last stall in the bathroom and this is what I found on the floor. 


All I can say….. Amen… Jesus Amen. 

Have an amazing day living in His Presence. I’m off to the couch with my cold meds. Achew! Love you… Achew!

Who am I?  

I’m ordinary. I’m a mom, a wife, a weekend gardener and a follower of Jesus. I’m a believer who is sold out for my Papa, Daddy and I refuse to live lifeless Christianity any longer. I believe the Bible. Every Word. 

I love people and like flowers. I see God’s face in nature. Every…. single….. day…. I hear His voice and I live on the edge because God likes surprises and He still training me. I refuse to live a comfortable faith because that JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH anymore. I am in His army and I’ve been bloodied but I’ve also watch God move in the supernatural that leaves me undone. ON THE FLOOR…. undone. 

Children are God’s best gift in life. And I believe in marriage and as a follower of Jesus I can THRIVE in my marriage, parenting and live a life of joy and abundance--God’s abundance. 

I am a woman who prays with real belief and passion asking for more love to love my God and His people and to especially love the un-lovely in my sphere influence. 

I’m a bit zany, ask Dineen! And I have blonde moments. But, I KNOW my Lord and He knows me. I love fall leaves and Fantasy Football, and also my whacky dog, Peanut. I can’t wait to get up in the morning to see what adventures my Daddy has instore for me. 

Life is full. It’s sometimes pain. It’s often puzzling and yet absolutely astonishing because I spend it with Jesus. 

I’ve seen feathers falling from the sky where they shouldn’t, I find doves everywhere (My every day miracles), I’ve had gold dust appear on my hands and I’ve been overwhelmed to the point of shaking under the love and power of my God. I believe in the gifts of the Spirit and that His Holy Presence is walking with me and sits upon my right shoulder. I’ve prayed for healing for me and others and to my complete amazement, God answers my prayers. 

I’m an ordinary woman who will settle for nothing less than being a sold out Jesus follower for the rest of my life. 

Join me and let’s do this journey together. Dineen and I share our hearts, our homes and our love for our Papa here. It’s a safe place where you can find refuge from the world. A place where judgment dies and people are free. This place is where Jesus shows up on the web and changes us. He really changes us and He is good. We are a family here and our passion is to love God with all of our heart and to love people. 

It’s one of the best places in the world, the heart of God. And if you are new here, you are in for the ride of your life. Today may be the day you too will join us and become a follower of Jesus and leave life-less Christianity behind… Because we want the miracles. And God does not disappoint.

Martha's Miracle!

My precious friends, you've seen Martha Bush's name many times in the comment. On Mother's Day, she sent this email to Lynn and I—the story of a miracle! And it's a story to be shared! Wow! 


5508294_sI have a testimony of praise on this Mother's Day. I left my home in Orange Friday morning at 4:30 A.M., headed for Georgia to spend Mother's Day with my mother. About an hour into the trip, the following is what happened.

Just before I got into Sulphur, LA on Interstate 10, all of a sudden there was a big boom and I didn't know what had happened, but I knew that my body was moving around in the car, and I knew I did not have control of the car. But, I didn't know what happened.

Somehow, I got back into driving position, and I was traveling straight ahead in the right lane, as if nothing had happened. But, I knew it had. I saw am 18 wheeler pull over to the outside lane, and my first thought was that he had pulled over to help me, so I pulled up behind him—I didn't know what had happened.

Now, here is the miracle. He walked up to the side of my car, and I said, "what has happened?" He said, "I am so sorry, but I dozed off to sleep, and when I woke up, you were there in front of me and I couldn't stop."

Yes, I was hit in the rear by an 18-wheeler, my car is totaled, and I don't have a scratch on me.

I couldn't find my glasses, so I had to ask him to help me look for them. He found them on the floorboard behind the driver's seat. That's when I realized that the driver's seat had been laid back upon impact. Later, I realized that was when I was spinning in my head, not knowing what was happening—the driver's seat was laid down away from the steering wheel, but God picked me up to put my hands back on the steering wheel, and my car kept going down the Interstate as if nothing had happened.

This is 1-10, no other cars were around us at that time.

I give God all the glory. He truly drove that car for me when I was in a laid back position. He sat me back up to the steering wheel of the car, and I was driving down in the right lane as if nothing had happened.

I know that you both believe in miracles and I just had to share this with you—I am a living, walking miracle today. Praise Him with me.

I had to call my Mother and cancel the trip. But, I could only tell her that I had car trouble—she would not be able to stand up to this kind of news. My husband has been an angel himself. Actually he was out of town, and I had to call my neighbors to pick me up. But, Glen started driving home immediately, and I have held nothing back of testifying of how God's hands were on me. He agrees.

To God be the glory!!!


Needless to say, we were so thankful and praising God that she was fine. A couple days later I asked Martha if she'd experienced any soreness or stiffness since. 

She said none! She's had no after affects at all!

I don't know why but that completely brought home the magnitude of God's miracle in this for me. As Martha said, let's praise God with her!

Precious Lord, You are so AWESOME and AMAZING! Thank You for Your love and care for Martha and for us. Thank You for keeping this dear sister in Jesus with us because You have more for her to do here. We ask for your anointing and blessings upon her to do the works that You have prepared for her. In Your saving name, Jesus, we pray all this. Amen!

Miracle Update

Seven months ago, I was pleading with God to heal me of malaria...like, NOW. He heard, but didn't obey my command. His plan was to walk me through it, not take me out of it. It was a longer walk than I anticipated, but worthy of my time. Along that path, I came to know that 50% of malaria can be prevented by sleeping under a mosquito net. Say what?? 

My next prayer was, "Lord, I need money for 500 mosquito nets."

He instantly shot back, "Why ask for 500 when you know I always give you twice what you ask for?"

"Ok then...I need money for 1,000!" 

Today, this very minute, 1000 insecticide-treated mosquito nets are piled into a cramped little room in Yuwaraj Gajmer's home in eastern Nepal, getting ready for distribution!! PRAISE GOD!!! 

Lest you think they came without a CHALLENGE, think again! God had promised to supply them, but He never promised it'd be fast...or easy! But, in all honesty, the booty is sweeter having had to work so hard for it! 

NetsI have fallen flat on my face before the Lord with great sobs of thankfulness for His answered prayer. I wish I could thank each of you in the same way...the hundreds of you who so cheerfully gave, financially, so our beloved Nepali villagers could make it through this mosquito season (and many such seasons to come) without their family members dying of malaria. May the blessing you poured out onto the "least of these" be returned to you, pressed down, shaken together and running over!!

Miracles and Why God Doesn't Heal

Hello SUMites! 

God has been beating me about on the head trying to share with me this “thing” I keep talking about. I’m trying to describe to you, our community, and to others I talk with in person this movement by God. It’s a movement in the spiritual realm that is bringing God’s Kingdom to earth. People are experiencing God in profound and different ways than in years past. Experiences such as the encounter I described on Monday. This thing, this movement God told me is

I’ve seen this word written in giant letters on a wall. I’ve had it arrive over and over through email and finally on Monday I “Got it.” Sheesh, it takes me awhile. But, I’m now fully convinced that we are witnessing a giant awakening of God’s people. Did you know that in China over 23,000 people come to Christ every weekend? The Asian population is hungry for God. There are people dreaming dreams of Jesus in the Muslim countries. In America, we the people of God, are being filled with the Holy Spirit power and love. We are stepping fully into the truth of the Bible. Jesus said, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. (John 14:12).

This is not just a good thought or great theology. God REALLY wants expects His people to do greater things. Our command is exactly what I shared on Friday. Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!

This is not a command specific to clergy, pastors or great Bible teachers. It is for EVERYONE. You… Me… All of God’s people.

I believe this so fully and have been pleading with God for more of His Presence to serve His purposes that is why He showed up in that room weeks ago when a group of ordinary women prayed for healing. This story, His power and love alive and in action in our lives brings great honor to our God. And it’s is His will to bring healing. I absolutely believe that.

So why then are some not healed?

Do you remember that God reminded me the day following this crazy encounter that is was the “woman’s” faith and trust combined with God’s love and power that healed her? She believed God could heal her. She then trusted that God would heal her.

Our faith is very much part of the equation. Not always but most of the time. God wants us to be part of His work.

Through my extensive study and research about healing over the past six months I have discovered a few things about God’s miracles. First, you can’t put God in a box. He moves with full knowledge and power in a person’s life. Two, God will choose to heal some and not heal others. We won’t always understand why. But let me share with you a perspective that might bring you peace about God’s healing intentions.

This is an excerpt from an email I received on Monday and it best describes what I’m trying to say. It’s from Lynette, one of our SUMers:

Dear Lynn,

Good morning! Hope you are well. Great blog post today! I also believe God wants us healed, but something came to me as I was reading. While I believe in healing, I also know sometimes God doesn't heal. I asked many times for my mom to be healed when she was dying, but God didn't heal her. I asked God about it and He told me she had a hard life, and she was tired, it was time for her to be free of the chains of this life. (She was saved right before she died) So I do think sometimes God has His own reasons for not doing it, and it takes faith to trust in that too.

Another story I heard in my first church was a man had cancer and the whole church prayed, the pastor strongly believed in healing, and she was unsure of why he didn't get healed. She said God told her that if he healed him, the man would have walked away from God and went back to his life of drugs. So God in His wisdom and knowledge of events that were to come took him home.  So in a way they were 'healed.' I'm not trying to contradict anything you said in the blog, just wanted to share how I have seen God work at times.


Well said Lynette. Sometimes God heals and sometimes He doesn’t. We won’t always understand.

We are called to take a step of faith and at least try. Will we fail sometimes? Yes. So, we pray to understand what happened. We also must recognize we are all on a journey and it takes experience and wisdom to begin to move in a new realm of God. We are ALL, each one of us, in process and it takes time to arrive. But, we are to pull up our courage and take risks.

It was a risk for me to lay on hands and pray for physical healing. The experience was so strange that if I shared it with my husband, he would think I’m crazy.* I am willing to lose my dignity and look a fool in the eyes of others and specifically other’s whose opinion of me matters. But God’s opinion of me matters so more than any human that I am willing to lay down everything, my pride, my position, my reputation to be part of His Work on planet earth.

Okay, once again this post as gone looooooong. Sheesh. A girl can talk… I want to share more about how Jesus models a step of faith on Monday. See you then. Today, I’m wondering if you can share a story of healing from your life. I love you. I really love you, Lynn

What is God's Will For Each of Us?

On Friday we left with the strange and fascinating story about Elijah. How he stepped out onto the mountain to haven an encounter with God.

If you remember, (if you don’t’ remember, you MUST read Friday’s post) I’m seated in a Bible study addressing the leader as I’m speaking. I continued explaining my thoughts on this passage in 1 Kings and said, “I believe this (taking a step of faith) is especially true when it comes to healing. Healing of our hearts, our spirit and especially physical healing.”

Well that is when everything went nuts.

The leader stopped talking. I stopped talking. She was staring at me with such intensity and I didn’t have a clue what was going on. All of a sudden she bursts into tears and says to me, “Lynn, I have been asking God that you would pray for me for my physical healing and that I would know it’s of Him when I heard you speak of it from your own lips.”

I think I sat there dumbfounded. But then it was if the Holy Spirit flooded that room with such power that I jumped to my feet. I asked her to stand. The six of us in that room surrounded her, layed our hands upon her and began to pray.

Now it’s difficult for me to explain what happened next.

Let me start of by sharing that the experience I’m about to tell you had its origin months earlier when I experience an encounter with the Most High. It was the same filling and expression of the Holy Spirit that happened to me in worship while at the Bethel conference. A Holy God encounter.

I began to tremble. I felt God’s power and love come down over me and flow to the others in the room and onto the leader who was facing me and my hands rested upon her shoulders. My eyes were closed and I don’t really remember all that I prayed. But I prayed with power, certainty, conviction and petition for healing.

The woman began to shake and tremble. I was fully trembling under the power that was coming from above me and coursing through my body. When this happens to me it’s like I’m being electrocuted, kinda in a good way. I can feel it flow down from my head, bounce off the bottom of my feet, back to my head and back down again. I can’t breathe in the beginning and I can’t move. I’m frozen under the waves of power and love flowing over me. Then my right hand begins to shake uncontrollably, vibrating with a force I don’t understand nor can I fully explain. I become completely hot from head to toe breaking out in a not-too-feminine sweat.

The woman in front of me is now trembling. I can feel her growing hot. I’m praying a Holy shake down of heaven upon this woman, declaring her healing from cancer and fear. I prayed with a passion and purpose that clearly was of the Holy Spirit.

We finished and I think we were all wiped out and so astonished at all that just happened it took days for us to process it all.

The next day as I was praying, giving utter thanks to God for answering my prayers to bring healing and her prayers FOR healing and just allowing me to be part of His Kingdom, I heard the Lord say to me a few things.

“It was her faith and belief and my love and power that healed her.” And God went on to assure me that her healing was completely between the two of them and that I was only the conduit. Her healing is entirely up to her belief (her step of faith) and God’s love and power. Wow, that just removes me completely from the picture and I AM SO UTTERLY RELIEVED BY THAT. I don’t want to be responsible for her healing but I do want to be part of what God is doing on this earth.

How about you?

Okay, once again I can imagine it’s a weird and challenging story to take in. It’s challenging for me to write about this kind of supernatural stuff because it is often the Christians who can’t believe God still moves like this in our current day. But, I hope that all of you have known me for some time and KNOW my character and my faith. I’m just on a journey like all of you to live fully in the Presence of the Most High. I WANT for all of you to have a Holy encounter with our Daddy. So begin to pray something like this:

Lord, I’m hungry for more of You. I’m hungry to experience my faith not just know it as theology. I want to have a Holy encounter with grace, healing, hope and your power. I deeply desire to be a conduit of your Presence and bring Your purposes to people. Increase in me Papa, Daddy. I will exchange my dignity, my possessions, my everything just to live every day in Your Holy Presence. Teach me Lord how to move closer to you. Send me to people who can teach me more about your glory, signs and wonders. I want to live like Jesus did, bringing hope, truth, light and healing. I want to live out His command in Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!

In King Jesus name. Amen

Matthew 10:8 IS God's will for each and everyone of His people. Today, tomorrow and for all of our life. Do you believe this? 

The Jordan River Is Only A Step

I know many of you shared with me your “Jordan.” We all have areas that God is working out in us for our good and His glory. And my friends please know I have earnestly prayed for you.

So let’s talk about what it truly means to take a step of action.

I think we first need to define and believe that God can take action to accomplish His will anytime and anyway He sees fit. But, what is really cool if you think about it, is that God wants us to participate in His work. Like Dineen said on Wednesday, “He could do it all Himself but then where would that leave us? Mere spectators? A flat picture on a table with no substance or depth?”


We would find our faith unfulfilling and shakable.

Okay, I know some of you would like a space of boring in your life however; you truly rob yourself of witnessing the miracles. It’s in our calamity and trials that our utter dependence brings us into the realm of His Presence. It’s in His Presence the calamity, chaos, and pain let up and then finally disappear. It’s in this place of utter surrender that we experience a paradigm shift and see the world with a vastly different perspective.

I know this to be true as I am living proof. So is Dineen and many of you are on the road to this destination. But the road to experience the Presence and the miracles begins with a step of faith.

We all have faith. We believe that Jesus is the son of God, our Savior. But many of us truly don’t believe in the miracles of the Bible. Perhaps we have been taught theology that miracles were only for the first century church. Or that God doesn’t move in the supernatural in this era.

I have one word to say about all that….. Bull. *ahem* pardon me. But we either believe what the Bible says or we don’t. The Holy anointed Word of God reveals supernatural events, miracles, healings, and deliverance from evil, throughout all the centuries. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Therefore, I have faith that miracles are possible today. In fact, I know they are because I have experienced the supernatural.

My friends, faith for miracles often begins with a step of action. I truly see God wanting us to participate in His supernatural work for several reasons. One being that we will be astonished and a witness and receive His favor. Which propagates more of His Works and favor.

God deeply desires for us to be vessels of His love, purposes and His will. That is where a step of faith becomes critical. We must at times many times take action to initiate God’s purposes. I think there are moments when God is poised to move in the supernatural and He’s waiting anxiously for someone, anyone of faith to take the first step to release His power.

Let me explain how this has worked in my own life. Since returning home from our Bethel conference last October, I have been begging God in earnest, daily prayer and petition for the gift of healing. I’ve read a lot and searched out those who could help me to understand how God moves in this realm of physical healing.

And now here is where the story gets weird. And in fact, someone reading this is not ready to receive this truth that God moves in such ways. That’s okay. Some will not understand because they aren’t ready to receive this new glimpse into the Kingdom. And you may wonder why? Why would God not allow glimpses into the Kingdom? You must be in a place of spiritual development or maturity.Remember, Christ taught in parables because people who were to ready to receive the Kingdom truths would hear them and those who weren’t ready, they would not be held accountable to the truths. When we are made ready through a vibrant relationship with Christ, God stands waiting to share more and ever increasing glimpses (miracles) of His supernatural Kingdom.

Okay, with all that said here is my own personal experience. Please read this with grace and love and ask God to talk to you about what I share.

It was about two months ago that I attended my regular Bible study at church. And through an uncanny series of discussion in the group we came to a place in the discussion where I was asked to explain my thoughts on the following passage:

1 Kings:11-13 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” 

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

I looked at the woman directly who asked me to share my thoughts and I said, “This passage is fascinating to me on many levels but today I’m moved by one tiny portion. Elijah was having an encounter with God. And all of these fantastic natural events happened. As the wind came Elijah hid himself in the cave. After the whisper of God’s voice, now get this, Elijah steps out of the cave and into God’s presence.

“For me, this is an example for believers today. We must take that first step of courage and step out to meet with the Presence. This first step of action is exercising our will. It is our faith in action.”

Okay, there is a ton more to this story and it gets crazier from here. I will tell you more about it on Monday and also about how Jesus teaches this same principal.

For today, I’m wondering about you. Think about your walk with God. Do you think you have experienced a moment where God was just waiting for you to step out in belief to do something that seems incredible, impossible, or would appear foolish to others?

I want to hear about your stories. Because I know you have examples where you were MADE to turn your faith into belief (action). My friends, I can’t wait to hear how God is moving you to grow in your faith and belief walk. Hugs, Lynn

Part the Jordan River, Part III

(Part IV of our current Series: Parting the Red Sea and Parting the Jordan River.)

Good Monday Morning Sumites.

This is going to be a fantastic week. And I think we are going to discover what can happen in an ordinary believer’s life when we take a step of faith and then step out in trust. Ahhhhh, hold on because this gets really, really good.

image from www.spirituallyunequalmarriage.comLet’s pick up our story from Joshua 3 and find out what happened to the people who were stuck on one side of the river with no way to get across to the Promised Land. Read with me.

Joshua 3:14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho. 17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.


I’m not a Biblical scholar however I have some interesting perspective and first-hand experience in watching faith activated. I’ve become convinced that somehow our freewill is tied up in all of this but how that plays out individually is a mystery to me. But I can say with certainty there are absolutely many times where God is anxiously waiting for us to say yes to Him. He wants to bring healing and hope and real miracles but we must take the step of faith. We activate our faith birthing trust and we step out into many times situations that seem impossible and can be frightening. And what I think happens most of the time is God calls us to step out in faith and we fear judgment of “man” and we stay sidelined because we assume we will look like fools to those watching.

So I have a question for our community today. Think about your life right now. Do you think God is waiting for you to exercise your freewill and to step out in a moment of faith to be part of what He is doing on planet earth?

I want you to pray sincerely about this all week. Ask God to place a burden upon you so heavily that you can’t escape it if there is some action He is calling you to take in your faith walk. Tell me about it in the comments. Be real so we can pray with you and can pray for one another.

My next post will be about how Jesus taught us to take a step of trust and how He modeled it for us here on earth. Good stuff ahead. We are planting the seeds now because the harvest is around the corner… Remember you are the harvesters and our God wants our participation in His purposes.

Part the Jordan River

I wonder about something. When you read the OT passages do you kinda view the people of the stories as characters. Like a character in a fiction book? Well, Joshua is a real man. He lived on this planet and I can’t wait to meet him one day. I’m going to ask him a bazillion questions about living to be an old man, yet still having the health and vitality of a youth. What was it like to see the pillar of fire at night and the cloud during the day. Were you as astonished as me because your traveled in the wilderness for 40 years and yet your clothing and shoes never wore out?

                I’m sure I will pepper him with so many questions that he will have to spend a least a 100 years with me alone to satisfy my curiosity. Ahhhh, to dream about our ever-lasting future…. It’s one of my favorite pastimes.

                My friends, there is so much we can learn from Joshua but what I want to take a look at what begins to play out starting in verse 7. Now remember with me that the Israelites have been wondering. They have witnessed God move for them with supernatural miracles. God has now released them to finally to take ownership of the Promised Land. We could do an entire study on these concepts alone. But what I want us to recognize is a couple of things.

                Verse 8: God commands Joshua: Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’

                Now catch something here. There is a shift in God’s expectations of His people. For years the people have watched God provide for them supernaturally with Manna, water from a rock, escape the Egyptians through the Red Sea. But today, this day, something is different.

                Read with me: 9 Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. 10 This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. 11 See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. 12 Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. 13 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.” 

14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. 

Okay, I can’t even begin to explain why the river is at flood stage during harvest season but it is roaring. It is wide and virtually uncrossable for the 1.5 million people of Israel. But, let’s not get stuck on that phenomenon. Let’s get stuck on the next one.

God instructs the people to MAKE THE FIRST MOVE. He commands the priests to step into the river FIRST. He instructs them to carry the Ark of the Covenant and to step into the raging waters. They must TRUST that God will do what He promised and cut the flow off.

They had to choose that very moment to activate their faith. For years they have watched God take care of them but today, they will take His Presence with them and step into the water. This is when their faith is activated and faith becomes trust.

God wants them to grow up. To become a people of trust to be participants in the miracles and not just the benefactors of His goodness and grace. I’m also intrigued that in just a couple of chapters the people ate grain from the land and I quote Joshua 5:12, “The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land.”

So I can bet you know where I’m going with this train of thought.

Where is the parting of my Red Sea?

SoocI’m wondering if you’ve noticed???

There has been a shift in our atmosphere here among the Sumites. This house has gone through a transition in the last six months. Dineen and I have talked about this transition a lot but what was really cool is that last week I was talking to Beverly Etzel, one of our long-time readers at the conference and this is what she said, “In the early years our discussions (posts at SUM) centered around husbands (spouses). Now they are centered around our faith. They are upward focused (on God) instead of side-focused (on man).


She is so right. So I’m wondering if you have noticed the transition in yourself? Have you watched your Sumite friends here online make this shift also? Well, do you know why this shift has taken place?

In the last week I’ve talked to God a lot about our community and I keep hearing this passage that Jesus spoke in Luke.

He (Jesus) told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Luke 10:2 NIV

I’m convinced that this family at SUM is in training to be Harvesters. My friends, think about it. I’m convinced by the Spirit that this time period and this generation sits on the precipice of one of the greatest revivals the world has ever experienced. We have been chosen to take what we have gained through our community here to the communities, the individuals, the broken and bleeding souls around us, we are to take the Good News!!!

You may read this right now and begin nodding your head because you know this is true. You may read this and think, “Lynn, you’re crazy.” But I want you to know that if you are part of this community, you are being called to be a harvester. Especially if you feel ill-equipped when you read this. I always feel ill-equipped. It’s us ordinary people that bring great glory to God when we move in His love and power to accomplish His purposes. So, as we move forward in this series, I want you to pray about how God is already using you as a harvester and ask Him about what more He has for you in the days ahead.

It’s gonna’ be a wild ride. Scary at times, completely over our heads at times, fantastic and supernatural, miracle-filled, kinda journey. But it’s going to be the best adventure you have ever lived. That’s a promise.

This interesting transition in our community ( our family) has been fascinating, beautiful and filled with God’s anointing and I bear witness to the fact that lives have changed. The Holy Spirit is alive and well here at SUM. Amen.. AMEN! And now we, the SUMers (Another Ro coined name) will step up and take what we know to people who need an encounter with the Most High God, His Son Jesus and the Spirit that lives in us.


So, let’s launch into this new study. There is much to share and uncover and it’s so cool that when we approach a study God puts the same subject on both my heart and Dineen’s. This study is no exception.

Last Saturday Dineen did some teaching from the book of Joshua. This past week my Daily Bible took me through this very passage as well. So we are going to spend some time with Joshua, the Israelites and a few others from the ancient times. There is such a richness in the OT and it’s going to spring to life here in the weeks ahead and prove that God’s WORD no matter how old, still is living and powerful and filled with lessons that will grow our faith walk.

Get out your Bible and read with me Joshua 3. Read through verse seven and stop there. We are setting the stage here. The family of Abraham has been liberated from Egypt over 40 years ago through a series of supernatural miracles. And as they left Egypt the multitude watched God part the Red Sea and the people walked through on dry ground. This is a critical fact to remember as we move through this study.

But let’s camp today on verse seven. There is a phrase in this verse that intrigues me. The Lord says to Joshua, “so they may know that I am with you.” God wants the Israelites to recognize that God is with Joshua and is preparing to do the miraculous to confirm His Presence upon this man.

My questions: Are you attracted to people whom you recognize have the Spirit of God in them? Do you think people today want to see God is with you?

This entire series is going to be about the Presence of God in us. It’s about our faith and how faith in God isn’t enough to see the miracles we are looking for. We need to add something to our faith and when we add that “something” that is when we see the parting of the waters, the signs and wonders, the miracles. And I’m talking about real miracles.

You know what that component is? It’s Trust.

Trust is different from faith and that’s what we are going to talk about on Friday. For today, read through this chapter of Joshua and ponder what is it about trust that is critical to the kinds of supernatural miracles we are asking for.

It’s going to be a great series. I’ve have some new stories to tell and we are all being called to the harvest fields. Get ready my friends. We are going to ROCK this world with the Good News!!!

Weekend Worship — Jehovah-Jireh, The Lord Will Provide

Yep, there it is. My "new" set of wheels.

My dear friends, I've taken you on this car journey with me, first sharing my family's finanical challenges, the need to sell my "beloved" SUV, and then the search for another car. Nothing "magically" appeared but I consider God's provision in this whole scenario as pretty evident and well, just plain cool. My SUV sold in less than 12 hours, giving us much needed funds, and now I have this cute 2003 VW Beetle that reminds me of the little car I drove through high school and college. The pieces just fell into place as we found this little gem online and made a quick sale with an adorable young couple ready to part with it. Even the CarFax said it was a great buy! We kept to our budget and accomplished our goal. Thank you, Lord!

So, all that to say, God provides. Sometimes He simply smooths the path like He did in this case. Other times His hand is more miraculous and astonishing as one story I just had the privilege to share in the new book Lynn and I are working on right now. Yes, consider that a teaser. We have some awesome stories to share in this book.

Weekend Worship — A Testimony

IStock_000017809995XSmallMy precious friends, I can't believe Christmas is so close! As the day draws closer, I'm trying to keep my heart and mind wrapped around the miracle that God brought so long ago and keep my eyes open for the ones He's doing right now. 

I want to share one with you. My rep at a magazine publishing group that I 've worked with sent me a Merry Christmas message by email, and I almost didn't reply back out of "busyness." I'm so glad I obeyed the nudge to reply back, because it opend a dialogue for a brother in Christ to share his story and offer encouragement to our SUM community. 

My friends, read this and receive the wonderful encouragement that God, our Abba Daddy, wants to you. I know this will speak to at least one woman out there who needs to read this. My friend, God brought you here to read this today for a reason. Believe it and know that your Lord has not missed a moment of your pain or your faithfulness. Whatever He is calling you to do, trust Him for the results. Just take that first step of faith and let Him do the rest.

My heck was not normal heck—sexual addiction, anger issues, spiritual dysfunction issues. Encourage women that no situation is too tough for God. I was so far gone, yet it was my wife’s love and prayers and tough love that got me to the place I wanted real change to happen. The result is I am in Bible school at night, and we adopted 2 kids from Ukraine in 2010. That is the fruit of a life yielded and a marriage transformed!
