A Tablecloth of Legacy
November 06, 2023
Hi SUM Nation. Lynn Donovan here.
Many of you know that I began a family tradition in November. It was years ago when my daughter, Caitie, was small. I was desperate to make the Thanksgiving holiday more than just football and turkey. I knew where all my blessings came from. Therefore, I looked for anyway to bring faith focus into our home.
I started a family tradition, A Tablecloth of Thanks. I thew a white tablecloth across the dining room table. Then placed several fabric safe pens upon it early in November. I asked all of my family and anyone who was a visitor to write the year and what they were thankful for. I urged my husband in the early years to participate. And he did, sometimes grudgingly.
Now after years and years of my family and friends scribbling on the cloth, it's become a family legacy. I pulled it out and it's full of all kinds of fascinating, funny and beautiful words of thanks to God. Written by little girls. Husbands and fathers, friends and relatives. It has become a beautiful legacy of the goodness of God.
This year I am hosting the family for Thanksgiving. We will gather in my dream home that gives me joy every day. We are healthy and we love one another even if we aren't perfect. But I am living the legacy today.
I am living the abundant life. Thank you, Father, Jesus and Spirit!
And if God will bring me to this place in my life, He shall surely do it for you. Follow Him with all you are.
I hope you are intentional to give thanks to our good Father this season. It's the highest and best that we can offer to Him, our praise, thanksgiving and worship.
I also know many of you started your own tablecloth. I would love to see a photo of yours in the comments.
I love you deeply my dear, dear brothers and sisters. Every little thing we do to bring God into our homes and family matters.
Blessings and hugs, Lynn
