Hey SUM family, Tiffany here!
I have been thinking a lot about my SUM journey. I have been married for almost 8 years now! When I look back at the "early years" I am truly amazed at how far we have come...how far I have come. This is not to say that the road traveled was easy. There were a few times that it seemed like it was all over.
Focus on love and everything else will fall into place.
God have me a word a couple of years into my marriage. I was praying over the salvation of my husband. I remember pouring my heart out about how things would be better if Jason were saved. I cried. I pleaded. It was in the stillness of my home that God spoke very tenderly - focus on love and everything else will fall into place.
I was so angry and filled with rage the first couple of years of my marriage. I am sad to say that even in the womb, my children heard my constant yelling.
"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal." - 1 Corinthians 13:1
It wasn't the answer that I wanted at the time. But God knows that I needed it.
God's gentle guidance that day helped me to realize that I needed to look within. I could pray for countless hours about the state of my husband's heart. However, what good would it do if my heart was stone cold?
My prayer began as such:
Holy Spirit fill the atmosphere so full of You that we cannot help but breathe you in. Fill the atmosphere so full of You that there is no room for anything else. Make the atmosphere so thick and tangible of You that when we breathe in, we are breathing in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and self control. When we breathe out we are breathing out the toxins of this world. Fill the atmosphere so full of You that we cannot help but become more like Jesus.
During a dark time when feelings of affection was sucked out of our marriage, I began to pray:
Holy Spirit fill the atmosphere of our marriage with joy, peace, love, grace and mercy. God help us to see each other the way that You see us. Help us to begin to appreciate one another again. Remind us of why we first enjoyed one another. Give us eyes to see the good in our marriage. Help us to love and respect one another. Remove all hostility, divisiveness, unforgiveness and hatred from the atmosphere.
It was amazing to see how God softened my husband's heart when I began to pray over the atmosphere of our home. I began to see his patience and kindness. I began to see his
empathy and compassion. I know God was softening Jason's heart but I also believe that He was opening my eyes as well.
I am so glad to say that our marriage has had such a turnaround. I praise God for His work in both of our hearts. I look forward to many more years. I know it is God's heart for my
marriage to thrive. In praying in line with God's heart - major breakthrough began to happen.
