Lavish Love

933344_i_love_you When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. — John 6:12-13

I read this piece of Scripture last week and was struck by the thought that Jesus could have "made" the fish and bread to be just enough for these 5,000 hungry mouths and not have a crumb left.

But he didn't stop there. He created a bounty. Leftovers, sustenance for another day perhaps...

This touched my heart because the story seemed to say to me that Jesus loves us lavishly. He wants to give us what we need and MORE! But how often do we settle for just enough?

Look at the hand of our Savior and see what He's holding. You'll see His heart—all for us.
