Jesus, My Hero
I’ve heard so many people express a desire to make this week meaningful. Passion Week. Their words pricked a cord in my heart as well. For so many years this holiday has been about Easter baskets full of candy and chocolate bunnies. (Well, I did revert to chocolate crosses some years back. Had to get that in there somehow!)
For years I’ve relinquished going to church on Easter Sunday to keep my family together. And I was fine with that. I respected my sweet hubby’s wishes and the desire of my girls to be home with their dad. I knew God understood. After all, aren’t we as Christians, belonging to Christ, called to glorify him with each day of our lives, not just one day a year?
This year looks to be quite different though. Oh, there will still be Easter baskets full of candy and chocolate crosses. But the dynamics have changed a bit.
My daughters want to be at church this year. (Can you tell I’m a proud mama?)
Nothing has shown me God’s faithfulness more than my daughters choosing to give their hearts and lives to Christ. At times the opposition was so bad, I worried my girls would reject what Jesus had done for them. So many times I feared the world would win, no matter how hard I prayed. Some days I thought for sure I’d lost the battle.
But God heard all my prayers for them. All through the years. Even when I wondered and doubted what the outcome would be, God knew. He had it all figured out long ago. All I had to do was believe.
So this week I’ve decided to read about the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus in all four books of the Gospel. I want to be reminded of all he suffered and sacrificed so that I could watch my daughters accept Christ into their hearts, watch my oldest daughter recently get baptized, and witness the dedication of my youngest to help even those she meets briefly on a computer game to know the love of God.
That’s the story after the resurrection. That’s the story of Jesus, my hero. If I could see him right now, I’d tell him one thing.
We won.
Praying and believing (now for hubby),
