Thankful Thursday

Today it is gloomy, foggy, cold and raining. The winter appears to be relentless. I know many of us hit the winter blues about now. Thoughts of backyard BBQ’s, flowers in the garden and green grass thrill our hearts.

However, I am not quite ready to release winter. Did you know it is in the winter that a tree’s roots push deeper into the soil? It is strengthened through the months of harsh cold and when spring arrives, the full spender of its leaves is displayed.Wint08_2

It is also true of our lives. We need the winter.

Lord, if is often difficult to thank you when we are struggling in the winter. However, it is the beauty of a changed heart, a strengthened character and a wholeness of our spirit that makes winter a season to be thankful for. I thank you for the winter. In Jesus name, Amen.

Be Blessed, Lynn

This is beautiful Lynn! We can take comfort in those winter moments but snuggling up closer to our creator :-)

Oh.my Lynn - I needed to read that tonight. You are (as always) right - we need the winter seasons in order to grow closer to the soil - His soil to nourish is from the inside out.

Thank you for making my heart skip a beat tonight in sharing your grateful heart with us.

Blessings to you and your precious family.

what a lovely thankful post! we do need something like winter to make us stronger inside ...

Amen and Amen Lynn!

Your posts are always just on time...

I'm going to try and send you an email soon, hopefully it's on your blog. Got some questions for you.

Blessings!!

I am eagerly waiting for warmer days myself but really like the illustration that you shared about the trees deepening their roots. Be blessed!

I also love winter because it kills all (or at least most)those pesky gnats and bugs! Even though I'm eager to get out of the chill, I know God sends each season in its time...thanks for the reminder!

Oh Lynn....what I have needed to read...I found here. I am experiencing a bit of that...but knowing all the while, God is at work. In the midst of all the pain and heartache...He's there. I love you!

Let us thank the Lord for our winter time in life, because after the winter time, the spring time in life will follow full of green leaves and colorful flowers and warm sunshine, and so on....so many wonderful things await us ...

Often the simple truths are the most profound. I've never thought about tree roots growing deeper during this time of quiet in nature! And how true that is of our own hearts. I'm thankful for your wisdom today. :~D

Praise God for always being there.

Oh Amen, my friend! God has ordained the seasons for a reason. Drive my roots deep, Lord!

Your message is so beautiful and I couldn't agree more.

Thank you so much for that beautiful reminder. Without winter there would be no spring.

I definitely needed to read that today! Thank you for such a great reminder of the importance of the seasons...in nature & in our souls.

It reminded me of the sermon at my church last week...the priest reminded us that right about now, in the 2nd week of Lent, we may start to feel like going astray from our journey...like in winter when we feel we need spring "right now!"...his wisdom was simple stated: "Stay on the journey"...I find myself repeating that throughout each day.

Yes, we do need the winters to grow stronger although we sure don't like them when we're going through them, do we? Have a blessed day!

Thank you Lynn, I needed to hear this today!

Okay, okay.....I've been caught complaining about the winter. I admit it....I'm on my knees! :) Thanks for straightening me out! We need each other to keep on the right track! Thanks for sharing dear girl! Blessings on your day.

I've always loved the winter months, crazy as it sounds. But this seasonal affective disorder is killing me! I just want some SUNSHINE and longer days to help pull me out of the depressive slump I'm in. (probably need more than that)

love you,
Vicki

Thank you for the reminder, Lynn. I didn't know that about the roots.

This was a much needed reminder this morning. It's been below zero here for about 200 days!!!! I'd just like it to warm up to 10 or so. Then the kids could get out of the house for a few minutes.
Patience...winter has its purpose too.

I loved this post!! What a beautiful prayer!!
Thanks so much for sharing this, Lynn. You are such an encouragement to me!

What a blessed reminder. God uses every season, every day, every moment to perfect us for His glory. Thank you for this great picture reminder!
Blessings, Kim

How very very true. Can are so strengthened and then when the spring comes we rejoice with renewed vigor! Wonderful!

I left you guys a little award at my site... You are so deserving! Hugs!

What a beautiful reminder to be thankful in all seasons. Seasons change but the one we serve does not. No matter what season of life we are in we can find strength in knowing He remains forever the same. Be blessed,
Stacy
