Putting on the full armor of God begins with the belt

Paul compared the Roman Garrison’s armor to the armor of God and started with the belt. A Roman Guard’s armor was held together by the belt. It is the most vital piece of the entire uniform. The breast piece is held in place through the belt the sword hangs from the belt. Notice the belt protects the, ahem, privates. The belt supports the cute little skits they are wearing. Without the belt the entire armor of protection would fall apart. Ephesians 6:14 (New International Version) 14a Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, Truth is the core of our faith. In order to engage the enemy we must know that he is the father of all lies. John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to... Read more →

Thankful Thursday

I was just stopped on the street by my next-door neighbor, Mary. She is a widow who lives alone in a giant two-story home. She is of Greek decent and speaks with a thick accent. I struggle to understand her and she me. James 1:27 (New International Version) 27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. This encounter is significant because God keeps bringing this scripture before me in many different circumstances in the last several weeks. Back to the story. Yesterday, Mary had the Verizon folks over and they installed her new television system. Today it crashed. I mean the black screen of death. Now this is a widow with no television. She is bored and asked me if I could help. Yikes, I can barely... Read more →

A Confession

Just a few nights ago, I went out to dinner with my husband. And as I’m sitting there, I suddenly have this deep desire to confess something to him. Ever been in that place where the words are coming out and, in your mind, you’re wondering what in the world is going on. What possessed you to even bring up such a thing? So there I am, sitting in this really nice restaurant, enjoying an evening of peace, and I proceed to tell my husband how I was rude to one of the “receptionists” (not sure what her title was, to be honest) at the doctor’s office. I even tell him, “I can make all kind of excuses. I didn’t want to be there. Was dreading it, in fact. Her greeting lacked any friendliness. Most likely due the fact that she was flustered at the moment. She made me wait,... Read more →

Marriage Monday

I genuinely love to read about Christine’s marriage at Fruit In Season. Her passion and commitment to her marriage and spouse inspire me everyday. My story is such a contrast and I sometimes just have to shake my head. I can’t believe my marriage started out in such an unconventional way. Yet, God has used my marriage and spouse to create many things that are beautiful, rich and honoring to the King. I met my guy in a club. Yep, the Shark Club, in Las Vegas. A long, long story. We dated long distance for over a year and then married. Now, what a way to get started. I would not trade a minute of our years however. It is our spiritually mismatched marriage which caused me to return to my faith. It is God who worked in our marriage to bring peace and authentic happiness. I know a lot... Read more →

Sunday Smiles

At Spiritually Unequal Marriage we explore many difficult and serious topics. We can feel overwhelmed with the seriousness of life because our struggles are sometimes enormous. Because of this fact, I want to share the joy of the Lord with you as well. Hope you are tickled by this silly joke, lost chapter in Genesis. Here is the LOST CHAPTER IN GENESIS.... Adam was walking around the garden of Eden feeling very lonely, so God asked him, "What is wrong with you?" Adam said he didn't have anyone to talk to. God said that He was going to make Adam a companion and that it would be a woman. He said, "This person will gather food for you, cook for you, and when you discover clothing she'll wash it for you. She will always agree with every decision you make. She will bear your children and never ask you to... Read more →

This is a cornball story describing an ordinary day, a gal and her dog, and her amazing God. You may roll your eyes when you find out what I am talking about. Hang with me. The ending is good....... I am still in awe about this crazy, fantastic experience. Tell me, how would you react/respond? Be Blessed, Lynn Also, if you haven't seen the video yet, scroll down. It is AWESOME! Read more →

Thankful Thursday: Masculine and Feminine

This week I want to give thanks to God for his wisdom in creating men and women, masculine and feminine. Several months ago my friend Karen emailed me the day following a great discussion about my favorite topic, marriage. We were discussing what constitutes a healthy and balanced marriage. We determined marriage is rarely fair but a great marriage is balanced. The next day she emailed this conclusion to me. Wonderful words and I share them with you now. ……When it comes to male-female relationships we are not equal....maybe a better word would be we are not the "same". I don't think God ever intended us to be equal. He made us as "partners" with separate skill sets unique to our sex and to the jobs He put us here to perform. I cherish my female skill set and would never want any man to be equal to me! Oh,... Read more →

The Great Hope Maker

Last week, I posted about enduring hope. At the end of the article, I included this verse as part of a prayer. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13) Since then, I’ve found myself coming back to it frequently. (I also wrote it on an index card in the most delicious shade of pink—how can I miss it?) I love picking apart God’s Word. I’ve found that just about everything we’re told or shown in the Bible has at least two layers or two meanings. Isn’t that just like God? Nothing wasted and everything to gain. In reading this verse over and over again, two things stood out. The first part, “the God of hope,” tells me that, just as Christ is the author... Read more →

Hope That Endures

How do we keep hoping when everything we see tells us there is no hope? The very definition of faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see (Hebrew 11:1). But how do we apply that to situations that leave us hope-less? So often I see the struggle of the unequally yoked spouse as a battle to simply hang on to our own faith. In the midst of the adversity the mismatched marriage naturally brings, we find ourselves praying, hoping for our spouse’s salvation. Day after day we petition God. Months or even years pass with no visible change. How do we continue? How do we keep fighting and not give up? I sit in a unique situation. God has told me the time frame of my husband’s impending salvation. Using scripture, He revealed a glimpse of his seven-year plan to me... Read more →

A Confession

Today I must confess to you that I suffer from a terrible and debilitating disease. Symptoms and outbreaks occur at the most inopportune times. They leave me bereft and defeated. It can take months to recover from a severe attack. I am ashamed to tell you my disease is self-inflicted...... This is a true story. At Spiritually Unequal Marriage we explore many difficult and serious topics. We can feel overwhelmed with the seriousness of life because our struggles are sometimes enormous. Looking forward to your funny stories, jokes and one-liners. Be Blessed, Lynn The Sunday School Teacher asks, "Now, tell me Cindy, do you say prayers before eating?" "No sir," Little Cindy replies, "I don't have to. My Mom is a good cook." I thought this was hilarious since last week was a crazy week in my life. Hope you appreciate it as well. The Battle Cry - The Vision

The Full Armor of God: What is it? When should we wear it? Do we put it on? Is it clothing? Do I need to dress like a Roman? Why do I need to be concerned about some ancient armor the Romans wore? Are we at war? What great questions you have asked. Okay, I guess I asked them. However, do we truly understand this passage of scripture? This passage is absolutely relevant to our lives today. There is a struggle. There is a battle brewing. It is the most important and scariest drama you will ever learn about…… and IT IS REAL. This is the battle against evil, a real devil and real principalities (demons). It is a struggle to claim every man, woman, and child. Forever. Now, don’t be afraid. WE WIN! So why are we as believers in Jesus Christ concerned about this current war, also known... Read more →

Thankful Thursday

Today I am so humbled to give thanks to God for all of you. I have been surrounded in the past week by prayers, e-cards, e-mail and snail mail. Phone calls and hugs on the street have also came my way. Your concerns for my family and your prayers for the series I am preparing on Spiritual warfare, I have felt. In fact, the entire heavenly realm was rocked this week because you offered up my name to Jesus. I am touched beyond what I can describe. Thank you isn’t nearly enough. Know this however; each of you will have a giant hug from me one day as we sit before God. I will lovingly tell our King about your faithfulness, friendship, and love. I want all of heaven and the people on earth to know my deep gratitude for your kindness. Oh, Thank you…. Thank you…. Thank you…. Be... Read more →

Marriage Monday

My vow to him: His vow to me: To have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part. I think about these vows and realize as I spoke them over 15 years ago that I didn’t truly understand the commitment I was making. So many of us who are in love, rush to marry and don’t take the time to seek counseling or explore one another’s values and commitment to the future. Thus, unequally yoked marriages are born. Although my husband and I spoke these words and may not have understood the full responsibility of them on our wedding day, we have always taken them to heart. It is our intention to honor every vow till death do us part. As we enter... Read more →

Sunday Smiles

At Spiritually Unequal Marriage we explore many difficult and serious topics. We can feel overwhelmed with the seriousness of life because our struggles are sometimes enormous. Because of this fact, I want to share the joy of the Lord with you as well. I love to giggle, smile, grin and especially laugh out loud (too loudly, if you ask my daughter). Laughter is medicine for our souls and a gift from God who has a vast and wonderful sense of humor. Laughter can change a foul mood, lift a heavy spirit and make the day light. So beginning today and every Sunday, let’s share a smile. It is not my intention in any way to diminish the importance or focus of the Sabbath. It is my intention to share a laugh or a funny story to delight your heart on the Lord's Day. It is my prayer that your joy... Read more →

Ephesians Chapter Six. Are we at War?

About two weeks ago the Lord brought before me Ephesians, chapter six. For the first time I heard the words written there expressed in a way that was different, new understanding. I was moved by the real power residing in those living words. I began to think about all of the readers who stop in here. Many of us are smack in the middle of spiritual battles in our own homes. Although our homes should be a place of refuge, often it is at home where real battles in the spirit take place. The home front is where we need to focus on how to use these living words to bring our homes under God’s hand and claim His victory. I know that sometimes I can be intense as I study God’s word. I take God’s warnings about our enemy serious. However, as we move through this study I want... Read more →

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday at Spiritually Unequal Marriage is an opportunity to give thanks to the King for our spouses. ----- I asked my daughter today about her thoughts and thankfulness regarding her father. She did not hesitate a second and promptly told me….. "I am thankful because Dad tucks me in to bed on nights he is not traveling. Mom, I talk and he listens"….. BTW, she can talk more than I can….. Yikes…. poor guy. I am thankful for my husband. I am thankful he spends time with our daughter. Lord, for every husband that strives, daily to provide for his children, I give thanks. I am especially grateful for my guy who spends time talking to his daughter. In Jesus name, Amen. Be blessed, Lynn For more Thankful Thursdays, visit Iris at Sting My Heart. Prayer of Release

Father, You are the gift beyond measure. The ultimate treasure of our lives. You bless us so richly with your love, compassion, and forgiveness. You have blessed us with your Son. Father, I pray for those who are spiritually mismatched. I pray for hearts to be healed, for love to be renewed, and for hope to be restored. I pray each one of these dear children, your children, Father, would be strengthened in your love and grace. Give each of them an eternal picture and perspective that would bring peace to their hearts and strengthen their faith. Rain down your glory upon us, Lord. Help us to be the vision of Christ to our spouses. Sow the first seeds of belief in their hearts and draw them to You. Lord Jesus, we lay our spouses at your feet in full confidence of your ability to save them. We release this... Read more →

Marriage Monday- Excellence!

After I posted the topic for today’s Marriage Monday, Christine, from Fruit In Season, left a comment which is filled with wisdom. “I love that we're called to excellence and not perfection.” Amen, Christine! Is it possible to become an excellent wife? In a word, yes. Listen to what Martha Peace says in her book, The Excellent Wife. God has called every Christian wife to His excellence! Any flower can bloom when it is tended by God’s hand. A wife’s responsibility is to learn to put her confidence in the faithfulness of God and His word—to do what He says. She can become what He wants her to become if she does what He wants her to do. There is no other way.--Martha Peace The absolute best thing we can do for our husband is to love God. Our intimate love relationship with the King overflows into every area of... Read more →

Marriage Monday- Excellence!

Please join me this Monday as I host Marriage Monday for one more week. Thank you Christine at Fruit In Season for allowing me to guest-host while you get some much deserved and needed rest. We are still praying for you and your little one. Excellence: God’s will for every Christian wife is that her most important ministry be to her husband (Genesis 2:18). After a wife’s own personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, nothing else should have greater priority. Her husband should be the primary benefactor of his wife’s time and energy, not the recipient of what may be left over at the end of the day. Whether her husband is a faithful Christian man or unbeliever, God wants every Christian woman to be a godly wife---excellent wife. ---This passage is from a wonderful book entitled The Excellent Wife, by Martha Peace. 1960 By his divine power, God... Thankful Thursday

This week my heart is drawn to give thanks to God for the faithfulness of His servants. It is easy to become cynical about the condition of our world. Daily, the news bombards us with the ugliest of human kind. People disappoint us. Loyalty is evasive. Our efforts sometimes go unrecognized and even criticized. But….. In the midst of a world of cynicism, sarcasm and self-centeredness there are people who are committed to Christ. I know specifically several who in the last two weeks have impacted the heavenlies with their compassion. They stand for Christ and offer love to a world who doubts. They give freely of their time and money to share the love of Christ with the broken, the suffering, and the dying. They are the people who change the world. So today I am thankful for every single Christ follower who stands up and does what is... Read more →
